Neighbourhood
Hazar Bakbachi-Henriot graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. Now based in France, her work is influenced by her roots and the desperate humanitarian situation in her country. This painting draws on contemporary events in Syria, embroiled in civil war since 2011, and could be seen to represent the destruction of the fabric of old neighbourhoods in her home country. The painting was donated by the artist for an auction organised by the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA) to raise money for Syrian academics.
